So, they stopped the Pirate Bay?

(don't miss the video's at the bottom of this post!)

They did and, they fined them 1 million dollar. One of the main reasons was 'endorsing (piracy) downloads'. Let one thing be very clear on torrent-sites, torrent-sites are not perse links to pirated files!

I guess I have arguments for both sides on the table. File sharing has been going on for soo long and big companies were just too stubborn to embrace the internet at an early point as a new medium while the people loved the ease. Aplle understood this very well and iTunes is a clear case of how to do this right. I could go on for a while with pros and cons but there are just two other things I want to point out. I can imagine companies losing revenue due to torrent-linked-files, or even websites/file-sharing-sites for that matter, but, like someone pointed out 'Google also links to these kind of files'.They should have just made their point by shutting them down and leave it at that, making a statement 'This way of doing business is not the way', but.. and this is a big but.. they should fill the void with a reasonable alternative. This way they would have at least kept some of the respect of their audience saying: We didn't see the market, or didn't embrace it at an early time. We see now that there are ways that work, but they are not legal and we can't endorse those. We will try to provide in your needs so at the end of the day we will both be happy campers. We sell our movies at a reasonable price and you the viewer can enjoy the movie(s) you like.

A short addition and viewing this from a moral point of view. How many people got physically hurt? I mean really hurt? None, right? Ok, now let's look at some business practices that were going one or still are and hurt a lot of people physically! Shouldn't we make a case against these as well?

Gap, Mattel, Speedo, Wal-Mart Products Linked to Child P1 (youtube video. 6m59s)
Wal-Mart Christmas Sweat Shops (youtube video. 2m05s)
KFC Cruelty (youtube video. 4m31s)
John Pilger - The New rulers of The World (google video 53m11s)

And these are just some of the companies. My point? While some are so busy trying to make things 'right'. Let's widen our perspective and indeed make things 'Right!'.
